Maria Ryan started with paintings and other two-dimensional art and then took on a new challenge: painting on three-dimensional surfaces, i.e. painting a Pony. "The transition of my art onto the Ponies was a logical step in my career," she says. "I was born under the Chinese sign of the horse and had my own horse in my early twenties. And my daughter has a show horse farm in Lexington, Kentucky."
"This is the most fun of all in my art career!"
This Idaho artist has established a national reputation for her brilliant interpretations of wildlife and Native American imagery.
Pony Story: Adorned with jewelry of silver and turquoise, beadwork and ceremonial regalia - is a defining element and recognized hallmark of cultural expression for North American Indians. Maria Ryan, an accomplished artist and designer from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, has been winning awards and pleasing collectors around the world for decades. Her research into the meanings and symbolism behind the designs used in classic Southwestern jewelry, coupled with a fearless artistic style that leads her to experiment with different materials to achieve special effects in her art, resulted in this stunning tribute to the Native American love of jewelry.
T
he Trail of Painted Ponies celebrates the magic of the horse as an artistic canvas, the rich culture of America, and the unique talents of independent artists. The artists behind this exquisite collection come from all different backgrounds, and the inspirational stories behind each design are as heartfelt as they are beautiful.
The Trail of Painted Ponies announced that Westland Giftware would no longer be reproducing Painted Ponies. Beginning in January 2010,Enesco became the exclusive manufacturer and distributor of The Trail of Painted Ponies figurines and other merchandise. The Westland molds were broken and all of these original Westland Ponies should become even more highly sought after, rare, and valuable.
My photos are of the actual pony in this listing! Please consider these images as part of the description.
I have looked this pony over carefully and can detect no obvious cracks or chips in it prior to shipping. Please note that some ponies (particularly older ones)may have minor imperfections or show signs of touch-up, such as under-paints or over-paints (as most ceramic and some resin pieces do) that occurred during manufacturing, as each one is hand painted. Most painted pony boxes have shelf wear or the tag may be creased or slightly bent; this does not affect the pony in any way. The pony was displayed in a glass cabinet for my personal enjoyment;
