What distinguished Gene Diueckhoner's wildlife paintings was a genuine ability to capture the personality of his subjects. None of his animals were generic. He was able to render them in a way that left the viewer feeling they were preserved in a precise moment in time. His mission statement for his art was “To bring an awareness of the world around us; to inspire appreciation of the vastness and diversity of this great land; to revel in the joy of life reflected in the serious and comic exploits of those creatures who share our planet…”
Gene’s third Pony – “Dog and Pony Show” – has just been is a playfully yet artistically rendered Pony cloaked with different animal breeds, each rendered in a way that captures the charm and personality of the individual dog in a way that only a painter who has ridden the artistic currents for his entire adult life could achieve.
Pony Story: If you love dogs, you've come to the right place. Sedona wildlife artist Gene Dieckhoner - whose noteworthy accomplishments include serving as art director for Fox Animation Studios - has created a delightful tribute to our "faithful friends." Pure breeds and mixed breeds alike are gathered together on the form of a horse - another companion animal - that itself has been painted to resemble a Doberman Pinscher. For the dog and horse lover, this Pony is the next best thing to owning your own!
The Trail of Painted Ponies celebrates the magic of the horse as an artistic canvas, the rich culture of America, and the unique talents of independent artists. The artists behind this exquisite collection come from all different backgrounds, and the inspirational stories behind each design are as heartfelt as they are beautiful.

he Trail of Painted Ponies announced that Westland Giftware would no longer be reproducing Painted Ponies. Beginning in January 2010,Enesco became the exclusive manufacturer and distributor of The Trail of Painted Ponies figurines and other merchandise. The Westland molds were broken and all of these original Westland Ponies should become even more highly sought after, rare, and valuable.
My photos are of the actual pony in this listing! Please consider these images as part of the description.
I have looked this pony over carefully and can detect no obvious cracks or chips in it prior to shipping. Please note that some ponies (particularly older ones)may have minor imperfections or show signs of touch-up, such as under-paints or over-paints (as most ceramic and some resin pieces do) that occurred during manufacturing, as each one is hand painted. Most painted pony boxes have shelf wear or the tag may be creased or slightly bent; this does not affect the pony in any way. The pony was displayed in a glass cabinet for my personal enjoyment;
