    Description

    The

ntold want, by life and land ne’er granted,/
    Now, voyager, sail thou
    forth to seek and find.

    W
    alt Whitman,
    "The
    Untold Want," from
    Leaves of Grass
    .
    On a slip of paper
from psychotherapist Dr. Jaquith (Claude Rains) to a "cured" Charlotte Vale (Bette Davis) on leaving his sanatorium.
From my personal collection for your consideration: a scarce first release R42 lobby card from Bette Davis' biggest box office hit,
    Now, Voyager
(Warner Bros., 1942). Wearing one of her 30 outfits in this hugely popular "weepie,” Davis sits forlornly between her
fiancé (on right) Elliot Livingston (John Loder) and true love, Jeremiah “Jerry” Durrance (Paul Henreid), at a concert. The concert being some of Max Steiner's soaring Academy-Award-winning score which, the ever gracious Davis later complained, intruded on her performance.
    DESCRIPTION/CONDITION:
The 11” x 14” (27.94 x 35.56 cm) unrestored, first release 1942 (R42) lobby card is in Very Good condition --- especially for a 77-year-old temporary (at the time) theater-used advertising piece. The image is still crisp and the colors still bright with no fading. It has all of its authenticating markings.
There are four pin holes: two at or near the left corner and two in the right corner. A less than 2.00”/5.00 cm light, shallow crease is near the upper right corner. A small (
    ~
1.50”/3.80 cm) closed tear repaired with tape on the back and a slight paper “pucker” are at or near the bottom edge to the left of the title graphic device. The lower left corner is bent but intact.
The card exhibits general age toning common to Warner Bros. lobby cards of the period and some light rippling. Please see the photo. All in all, nothing that really distracts from this scarce, beautiful card from the  Bette Davis classic, inducted into the U.S. National Film Registry and in the top 25 of the American Film Institute's top 100 love stories in American cinema.
