Original U.S. Six-Sheet Poster (81x81) First Release Academy Awards Printing Dated 1963Original Columbia Pictures U.S. six-sheet poster (81x81) for the David Lean war epic, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA starring Peter O'Toole, Alec Guinness, Arthur Kennedy, Anthony Quayle, Claude Rains, Jose Ferrer, Jack Hawkins, Anthony Quinn and Omar Sharif. This film is the unforgettable biography of the flamboyant and controversial British military officer and his conflicted loyalties. With a brilliant script by Robert Bolt, a stunning score by Maurice Jarre, and unbelievably beautiful cinematography by Freddie Young, this film is considered to be the greatest adventure-biography ever filmed. The sweeping desert vistas totally immerse the viewer, and the battle scenes are among the most realistic of the era. It was nominated for 10 Academy Awards and won seven - including Best Picture, Best Director for Lean, Best Score for Jarre, and Best Color Cinematography for Young. This original roadshow three sheet is folded, and is in very fine condition. This poster was printed as a second edition six sheet after the presentations of the Academy Awards in 1963. The poster is dated 1963. LAWRENCE OF ARABIA was released in December of 1962 in Britain and the United States. It is likely that this poster served for both 70mm roadshow presentations of the movie and for the subsequent 35mm releases. In our opinion this poster does not qualify as a re-release poster, but rather part of the first release posters. The poster is really quite scarce and has only been offered in the size at auction once that we know of. Six-sheet posters are large format posters, and this one is printed on four separate panels which are joined together to present as one large poster. This poster can be linen-backed but has not been. MovieArt Austin will sell NO reproductions, and we guarantee this poster to be the authentic U.S. roadshow six-sheet for this film.
