You are looking at a personal item from the estate of 1939 Iowa Football Star Jim Walker.  Jim Walker played on that great Iowa Hawkeye Ironman team with Heisman Trophy winner Nile Kinnick.  Jim was recruited to Iowa because of Hall of Fame great Duke Slater, and the experience he had at Iowa being one of the only African American athletes.

Plaque presented to James J "Big Jim" Walker for recognition of his 14 years of service to Central State University as Head Football Coach.  It is engraved with his record there of 61-53-3. This lot will also include an original 8x10 photograph of Jim Walker as coach of what I believe is the 1960 Central State team.
Jim Walker was a very important team member of that fantastic season of 1939 at Iowa and played alongside Heisman Trophy winner Nile Kinnick.  Jim was a coach at Central State University for many years and eventually went in to their first Hall of Fame class.  I'm sure this plaque was hung proudly on his wall for years after he received it.  The photo came directly out of a personal scrapbook.
