Description
1939 registered/certified (Warsaw No. 003687) diplomatic cover from the Romanian Embassy in Poland to Prince Nikolai Sviatopolk-Mirski, who was with the Delegation of Yugoslavia to the League of Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. The cover has a hand-written date of April 22, 1939 (Poland). It has cancellations clearly reading April 20, 1939 (Warsaw) and April 22, 1939 (Geneva). It also has two hand-stamped seals of the Embassy of Romania, as well as some control stamp and signature on the reverse. It is franked with two different Polish stamps. Given that Europe was rapidly sliding towards World War II (WWII) that fall, this cover likelyinvolved some intrigue or last gasp of diplomacy before the fires of warm again started to consume Europe and the world. It is an historic item worthy of a fine collection.
It is a Very Fine piece ready to enhance any collection of Polish/Romanian/Swiss/Yugoslavian postal history or diplomatic mail.
